West Elementary first-graders took part Thursday (Nov. 12) in an attempt to break a world record. They joined almost 1,500 schools across the globe partaking in a sport stacking challenge. A Saturday morning quilt auction on the grounds of the Harrington-Merrill house raised $7,000 for the historic building's ongoing restoration. The Boy Scout statue at Boy Scout Park in Hutchinson was installed Friday, Sept. 25. Although the weather was overcast and very rainy, the workmen erected the statue without a mishap. A group of 22 volunteers, mostly 3M employees, cleaned the Crow River in Hutchinson Saturday morning. The group’s efforts were part of the sixth annual Crow River Clean Up Day, a one-day event that involved more than 300 volunteers in several communities along the Crow. Jim Heikes’ death in March meant his desire to host his friends in a meeting of the Central Minnesota Two Cylinder Club went unfulfilled. Dassel celebrated the 50th anniversary of its Red Rooster Days festival last weekend in grand style. On Labor Day, a barbeque pit crew served up 4,000 roast chicken halves, spray-basted with the festival’s signature-recipe barbecue flavoring.
