"The Son of Neptune" is the second book in the "Heroes of Olympus" series by Rick Riordan. If you're a fan of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, the second series is more of the same. In the first book "The Lost Hero," Percy finds himself minus his memory in a new place that feels sort of familiar — only it's not Greek, it's Roman. The second book "The Son of Neptune" is action-packed and starts off with a bang with Percy trying to evade two gorgons who he keeps killing, but they keep coming back to life. He's saved in the nick of time when he stumbles upon the half-blood Camp Jupiter, where he becomes friends with Frank and Hazel (sort of counterparts to Grover and Annabeth.) Again, the new trio must complete a quest. I had trouble getting into this book. I kept picking it up and putting it down. About halfway through it clicked and I read it to the end. Basically the premise is the bad guys Percy & Company chased down in the "Lost Hero" series are coming back and this time the Greeks must join with the Romans to defeat them — thus the second series. Personally, I like the first series better, but this will do if you're looking for something new to read. If the story sounds confusing it's because it is. Basically Riordan has taken the first series and "Romanized" it. So it's a similar story, but everything is Roman, the gods, the location and so on. Riordan gets credit for introducing a new generation to Greek and Roman mythology. His books are available at public libraries or where books are sold.
