Web seminar offered for parents living apartMay 7, 2008 - 10:42am — Ardis TobisonUniversity of Minnesota Extension and the Working Family Resource Center are offering an online training for parents from noon to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 21. “We Agree: Creating a Parenting Plan” is a workshop for parents who care for their children in separate homes. When families change through separation, divorce, remarriage or a paternity action, a whole new set of challenges arises for parents and their children. Decisions need to be made about where children will live, how parents will share parenting time, rules, activities, education and many other elements of daily care. Food shelf board sets annual meetingMay 7, 2008 - 9:50am — Ardis TobisonThe annual meeting of the McLeod Emergency Food Shelf will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday, May 16, in the community room of the library building, 719 13th St. E., Glencoe. The report of the general business of the year will be given with election of the Board of Directors taking place. The meeting is open to the public. Sgt. 1st Class Tim Wettstein, an Iraq war veteran, presented Hutchinson Police Chief Dan Hatten with a special American flag during the police department’s station meeting Thursday. The flag was flown over Convoy Support Center Scania, Iraq, on Dec. 15, 2006, the 17th anniversary of the death of Hutchinson Police Officer Mike Hogan. Hogan, a Vietnam War veteran, was killed in the line of duty. Police Lt. Dave Erlandson had kept the flag since early 2007 so that Wettstein, who was serving in Iraq, could present the flag to Hatten himself.
Make 2008 park shelter reservations nowApril 28, 2008 - 4:34pm — Ardis TobisonAll McLeod County park shelters are available on a reservation basis. To guarantee a shelter for a certain date and time, call the McLeod County Park Office at (320) 587-0770 or (800) 587-0770. Walk-in reservations can be made at the park office, or mailed to 840 Century Avenue S.W., Hutchinson, MN 55350. A $35 fee is required to guarantee a reservation. McLeod County parks open for the 2008 seasonApril 28, 2008 - 4:27pm — Ardis TobisonAll six McLeod County parks will officially open Thursday, May 1. Park hours are 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. The parks are Buffalo Creek in Glencoe, Swan Lake by Silver Lake, William May Park near Winsted, Stahl’s Lake and Piepenburg, both near Hutchinson, and Lake Marion, rural Brownton. Camping facilities are available at Lake Marion Park and at Piepenburg Park. Reservations and park information is available by calling the caretaker at Lake Marion Park at (320) 328-4479 and at Piepenburg Park by calling (320) 587-2082.
