Festivities include a parade, Junior Royalty coronation and entertainment. Kiddy Day will begin at 10 a.m., when costumed children register for judging at Library Square in downtown Hutchinson. Categories for the parade are Movie and TV Characters, Sports Figures, Historical Figures, Storybook Characters, Pets and Animals, Wheels and Wagons, Clowns and Bums, and Miscellaneous. Mount Carmel Trio to perform at Faith LutheranMay 14, 2008 - 3:07pm — Kay JohnsonThe Hutchinson community is in for a musical treat when the Mount Carmel Trio performs in concert Saturday at Faith Lutheran Church in Hutchinson. The concert is sponsored by Faith Lutheran Senior Citizens, some of whom heard the trio perform during a session at Mount Carmel Bible Camp at Alexandria. The three women who make up the Mount Carmel Trio began playing together in 1992. Each summer, they prepare a new program of music they present at several concerts as well as playing at worship services, weddings, senior residences and other special events. Congress has mandated Feb. 17, 2009, as last day for the full-power television stations to broadcast in analog. After that, over-the-air TV broadcasts will only be in digital. The area chapter of EAA hosted Young Eagles Day at the Hutchinson Municipal Airport. Children ages 8-17 had the opportunity to go on a free airplane ride. Volunteer pilot, Dick Freeman, gave Claudia Hovendick, 8, of St. Cloud, and Lucas Bobier, 14, of Hutchinson, a ride above town Saturday.

'Speed Racer' disappoints at the box officeMay 12, 2008 - 8:11am — Kay JohnsonWe're only the second weekend into the summer movie season and already we have a disappointment. The leap from popular TV cartoon to big screen movie doesn't guarantee box office gold as "Speed Racer" proved this weekend. According to Box Office Mojo, "Iron Man" continued its grip on ticket sales ringing in another $50 million. "Speed Racer" came in second earning $20,210,000, barely sneaking past "What Happened in Vegas," with $20,000,000. |
