Brad Jacobson had to run for Hutchinson City Council. His wife, Jackie, clearly laid it out for him.

“She turned to me one day and said ‘You either need to stop being upset about this stuff or go help make changes,’” the manager of the AmericInn said.

As someone in the hospitality industry, Jacobson said he sees the impact of this country’s economic difficulties everyday. The City Council needs to account for that in its decisions, the Detroit Lakes native said.

“We absolutely need to be fiscally responsible right now. With our economic times, I think we really need to be conservative,” he said. “We can’t be passing the buck onto the citizens of this town. We need to work within our means for now. We need to look at things as a want or a need.”

Though he is new to Hutchinson, Jacobson has immersed himself in the community as a girls junior varsity hockey coach. He is also president of the Lions and a member of the Aveyron Homes board and chamber board.

“I think we have a lot to be proud of in this town. It is one of the best,” he said.
