A verbal threat made with the backing of a shotgun one night last weekend escalated into a near riot situation on Hutchinson’s Echo Drive the next night.

According to Hutchinson Police Lt. Dave Erlandson, officers were called to an apartment building in the 200 block of Echo Circle about 1:40 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 2. A man was allegedly making threats against two people and allegedly had possession of a shotgun in the nearby parking lot.

By the time officers arrived, the man was gone, but a shotgun was discovered in some bushes outside an apartment. With the help of the Minnesota State Patrol and the McLeod County Sheriff’s Department, the suspect was eventually found in an apartment and taken into custody at about 4 a.m.

Jose G. Solis, 53, of Hutchinson was arrested, booked and taken to the McLeod County Jail. McLeod County Attorney Mike Junge has filed a complaint again Solis on a felony charge of making terroristic threats. He was also charged Monday with a misdemeanor.

Erlandson said several members of Solis’ family from Fort Wayne, Ind., arrived in Hutchinson sometime Sunday, Aug. 3, and got into a dispute with some Hutchinson area men outside the apartment building on Echo Circle. Both sides were armed with baseball bats.

Police were called about 11:25 p.m. to a report of the fight in progress. Two Hutchinson area men, Wayne James Bernier, 21, of Gaylord, and Shane Allan Dorr, 19, of Hutchinson were arrested, booked and taken to jail.

A report on the incident went to Junge’s office and on Monday he issued complaints against Bernier and Dorr, as well as three of Solis’ relatives, apparently his sons. All face one count of second-degree riot when armed with a dangerous weapon.

The three Fort Wayne men include Jose G. Solis, 29, Julio C. Solis, 26, and Francisco J. Solis, 24. Police believe they came to Hutchinson “to seek revenge” for their father being arrested. They were arrested on a warrant Monday.

Two other Fort Wayne men, age 22 and 25, face possible disorderly conduct charges. Police sent a report to City Attorney Marc Sebora seeking a complaint against the pair.
