National Night Out, “America’s Night Out Against Crime,” which takes place Tuesday, Aug. 5, has grown from 400 cities in 23 states when it was born in 1984, to 11,300 communities in all 50 states and Canada.

Sixteen neighborhood cookouts are planned throughout Hutchinson next Tuesday, Aug. 5. Most will be attended by a member of the Hutchinson Police Department.

National Night Out is designed to heighten crime prevention awareness, generate participation in local anti-crime programs, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships, and send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
