Sasha Baron Cohen as 'Brüno'Gay cage matches. Beer-chucking riots. Middle Eastern crises. It's apparently all in a day's work for Sasha Baron Cohen, star of the 2006 hit, "Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan."
Cohen is working on a "Borat" follow-up, which the
Internet Movie Database [1] reports as having the working title of "Brüno: Delicious Journeys Through America for the Purpose of Making Heterosexual Males Visibly Uncomfortable in the Presence of a Gay Foreigner in a Mesh T-Shirt."
Cohen seems to be repeating his previous modus operandi, posing as a flamboyant homosexual Austrian fashion guru and pranking unsuspecting victims on camera.
Yesterday (June 8), the
Huffington Post [2] reported an Arkansas cage fighting match devolved into chaos after two of the contestants ... well, as Fort Smith Police Sgt. Adam Holland described it, "went right up to the line" of the city's morality laws.
"The two men stripped down to their underwear, kissed and rubbed on each other," according to the Huffington Post, which enraged the crowd. Numerous fight attendees began chucking their dollar beers, which thankfully were served in harmless plastic cups. An elaborate documentary camera crew was on hand to catch the action, although Cohen's publicist made no comment on the brawl-turned-lovefest-turned-riot.
That ain't all
Two days ago, the British-based
Sun [3] reported a former Israeli spy and Palestinian academic were apparently also duped by Brüno.
The Israeli and Palestinian were told they were being interviewed for a youth documentary, but suspected something was awry after their leather-clad interviewer "made them hold hands for a crazy song about the war."
"Brüno" is scheduled for U.S. release on May 15, 2009.
