To see firsthand how trash is turned to electricity, check out the June 26 open house at the Spruce Ridge Landfill Gas-to-Energy plant.
Spruce Ridge, operated by Waste Management, is home to the recently commissioned plant, which burns landfill gas to power electrical generators. Glencoe Light & Power Commission partners with Spruce Ridge and will eventually use the power to charge up 2,500 homes.
The open house starts at 11 a.m. at the gas-to-energy plant, 12755 137th St., south of Biscay. Mark Reinert, manager for Spruce Ridge, will be on hand along with state legislators, McLeod County commissioners, Glencoe Light & Power Commission management and other state officials.
A light lunch and landfill tours will be provided. For more information, call (320) 864-5503.
