Following a team score of 366 Monday at a conference quad at Crow River Golf Club, which matched the score of New Prague, both the Trojans and Hutchinson girls' golf team have 16 1/2 points entering Monday’s double-point championships in Shakopee.
“The team was thrilled with their play and yet they all know that we can go lower. I couldn’t have been more happy for them,” Tigers coach Tim Ellefson said. “We stay tied with New Prague and it will all come down to the Conference Championship next week. We could get as high as third and as low as fifth depending on how we finish.”
The score of 366 was the lowest in three years under the direction of Ellefson. It also marked the first time that two golfers shot under 90 in the same tournament.
Both Crystal Poirot and Mo Siriphatthanaphinyo shot rounds of 88, which leaves both in the top 12 in scoring going into the final event. Abbey Machtemes, 93, and Erika Anderson, 98, rounded out the team scoring.
Before the Tigers can focus on a top finish in the Missota Conference Championships at Stonebrooke Golf Club Monday, the team will compete in the Section 2AAA Preview Meet at Oakdale Golf Club Friday.
Teams expected to compete are: Bloomington Jefferson, Chaska, Eden Prairie, Minnetonka, New Prague, Prior Lake and Willmar. The meet begins at 2 p.m.
