All week long, I will be counting down the five most memorable moments of the 2007 season. Each day, beginning with today, we will relive classic games from last summer, counting down to Friday’s season opener with Cold Spring.
Here is No. 5:
August 5: Huskies 3, Maple Lake 0
Corey Trick fired seven shutout innings, surrendering nine hits, to earn his second win of the season against Maple Lake, knocking them out of the Region 8B playoffs.
In 18 innings of work this season against the Lakers, Trick allowed just two earned runs. The win advanced Hutchinson to the Section 8B final four.
The Huskies got three hits from Chris Henke and two from Mike Kutter, including the eventual game-winning RBI in the second inning. Kyle Messner earned the save, shutting down the Lakers over the final two innings.
“We had our backs to the wall and all of these guys have been in that situation multiple times at some point in their baseball careers. Every year it comes down to something like this and you need something to get you the wins. We got two excellent pitching performances and that’s what we’ve come to expect from our staff,” Huskies manager Lee Kuhl said.
Look for part one of the Huskies season opener in Tuesday's print edition.
