The Hutchinson High School foyer filled with students Friday as they lined up to tape their teachers to the wall. “Stuck for a Buck” raised money for Pennies for Patients, a fundraiser for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
“Someone actually took this literally and brought us 100 pennies,” said event organizer Kirsten Grorud.
Key Club members put on the event and provided the stripes of tape for $1. Grorud said fellow member Chris Retterath had some connections when it came to obtaining the rolls of tape they needed.
“His dad works at 3M, so he brought in industrial duct tape,” she said, hefting the large and rather sticky looking rolls.
How much tape did $1 buy? “One really big, long piece,” Kirsten said.
As the cash box filled with ones, the first victim — or volunteer — science teacher Brian Elwell, took on the silvery glow of duct tape.
Other volunteer wall-hangings for the day included health teacher Chris Sones and math teacher Kristine Dobratz.
The only rules: “You can’t rip off his hair or constrict his breathing,” Grorud warned students.
