Authorities arrest fugitive after Grove City manhunt

» Read similar stories filed under:

The Meeker County Sheriff’s Office arrested a fugitive Wednesday (Aug. 20) afternoon after playing cat-and-mouse with him for almost a day.

Deputies, along with Litchfield Police and members of the CEE-VI drug task force, attempted to stop a green 1990 Ford Explorer, driven by Devin Delbert Donald Blom, near 280th Street in Grove City at about 5:46 p.m. Tuesday night.

Blom, already on supervised release for a second-degree burglary conviction from Kandiyohi County, was wanted on Meeker County drug charges and a felony first-degree burglary Kandiyohi County warrant.

He allegedly led authorities on a brief chase west on 280th Street, before an officer forced his vehicle into the ditch. Blom escaped on foot into a nearby cornfield.

A Minnesota State Patrol helicopter, members of the Meeker County Posse, the Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office and Gold Cross Ambulance helped search the area for several hours, but Blom was not found.

Shortly after 8 a.m. Wednesday morning, a Grove City resident reported seeing a man matching Blom’s description emerging from the same cornfield, then walking north on County Road 25.

Officers arrived to see the suspect disappear into another nearby cornfield. An extensive search, again assisted by helicopter, failed to turn him up. Later that afternoon, a man matching his description was reported walking south along County Road 25, north of Grove City. Officers responded to the scene and saw the man enter a rural Grove City home.

They contacted the home’s owner, received permission to search the premises and shortly after took Blom into custody. He is being held at the Meeker County Jail, pending formal charges.

A residence on County Road 25 in Grove City, believed to be frequented by Blom, was searched Tuesday night. Drugs and drug-related items were found and that residence’s occupants face pending charges.

Well all you corn fed people of Hutch have struck it big this time! YeeHaw! Runnings is moving into the mall in place of Hennens... only in cow-town u.s.a. would this ever happen or be allowed to happen. There are a few in this village who try to pretend, but when their true colors are displayed... i think they call it flannel! What a bunch of 4Hers... can we expect to see tractors fill the parking lot?

No more pretending. The people of Hutch have been found out. We have let a business grow and expand in a new location without getting the approval of the non-flanel group. HOW COULD WE HAVE ALLOWED THIS TO HAPPEN?? Lets do our best to be a little more hoity-toity in the future shall we.
As a side note, do you suspect this string is posted under the drug bust article for a reason?

Maybe if Runnings did piercings, tattoos, and played 'My daddy didn't hug me enough so I'm going to dye my hair black, wear makeup and say bad words' music, Raven(banderson) would be more excited.

Sorry, I couldn't...

Back to page top

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

First, the city really can't say what business comes to town or decides to relocate wherever. It was a private transaction. Hennen Furniture had already made their decision to leave. The building owner sold the soon to be vacant building to Runnings. The building was not owned by the new Mall owners. The only say the city really had was over whether outside storage would be allowed.

Second, it seems ThAtSsOrAvEn may not have ever been in Runnings. Yes, some of their customers are in the ag industry. But much of their product line is really no different than a hardware store or even Menards, without the lumber, light fixtures and other home improvement items. It carries plumbing, electrical, tools, pet foods, bird seed, toys, paint, food/candy items, mowers, trailers, etc.

Third, yes, Runnings does have clothing, and the expanded store will have a lot more of it. No, they probably don't carry polo shirts or suits, but they do carry a lot of outdoor clothing for hunters and fishing people, too. Yes, they do have over-alls and flannel shirts. But then, you can get flannel at JC Penney, too.

Fourth, most of Runnings' latest stores are in large facilities such as this former Kmart building. Often they are in former Wal-Marts.

Fifth, while Hennen Furniture was a very nice store with good products, it didn't generate the foot/browse traffic at the mall that Runnings probably will. It will give people shopping at the mall more reason to walk to the south end to check it out. That will help businesses throughout the mall, but it will especially increase foot traffic through the south entrance of the mall. Other shops at the mall should be happy to see Runnings coming.

Eric, I think ThatsSoRaven may have connected some of the wording in the story with what his/her post was trying to convey.

fugitive manhunt = running(s)
cornfield = corn fed
drugs and drug related items = flanel
ok, that last one is just made up but you get the point.

By the way, have you heard Runnings is moving to the mall?

ThAtSoObNoXiOuSaNdNeGaTiVeAnDApPaRenTlyNeEdiNgSoMeThIngToDo,

I know your facing some challenges in life right now and need someone to blame for it, but this is somewhat a farming community. It will bring more business to the mall and Runnings. Right now in economy, you need to make right choices to make things work. Apparently, you do not own your own business.

I know you would rather see it turn into a baseball store, since your way out in left field all the time, or a knife store since your are always on the edge, or a burrito shop since you are always full of gas, or even possibly a herb shop, yeah thats it, you could spice up your life and stop being so negative. No that probably would not work.

It is what it is and it does not pay to complain about something you cannot change.

If you don't like it don't shop there.

You are probably one of those people who rant and rave about the economy every night. The farmers in this community, the hunters in this community, the mechanics in this community, the people in this community that need lawn equipment, ornaments, feed, dog kennels, birdseed, shoes, boots, carhart, d i c kies, plumbing, etc. more than likely aren't going to complain about a BIGGER store. I know the only thing I buy from the store is dog food, and I am not complaining about a bigger store.

Heck, maybe they will even carry Ridilin for some people!

Back to page top

Runnings moving into a bigger location is showing everyone that they are not worried about growing their business in these tough economic times. This is a great move for them, as their current location is crowded. ThatsSoRaven should stop complaining about everyone and everything. She/He always puts their 2 scense in no matter what we are talking about. Always negative, always talks about what she/he wants. I believe she/he is un-employed after that incident at Wal-Mart, and is unhappy now that McDonalds wont even hire her/him. Either way, ThatsSoRaven should be cut off this site, until he/she understands that other SUCCESSFUL people don't need to be cut down all the time. Congradulations to Runnings on their future move, and I hope to see more business in the mall soon. Also a big congradulations to all the other businesses staying a float in these tough economic days, keep up the good work and remember it's not people like ThatsSoRaven keeping you going, it's all of the other who HAVE JOBS and support local businesses.

Movement,
This site is for people's opinions. Not everyone's opinion is the same, you can make comments about others and it is to be judged as journalism yet someone who has another opinion is said to be unemployed. Come on get in the real world. When i read about people getting all twisted about round-a-bouts, campers parked in driveways, Mcwest's issues, or paved trails I smile. To them it is important yet makes for odd journalism. Hutchinson so wants to be a big town yet is such a farm. They want a nice place to eat, yet do not have the folks who make enough money to make this venture profitable. We want to brag about our schools yet we have been voting "no" for decades. We want this and we want that... why don't we just sit back and enjoy our million dollar tunnel no one uses and our soon to open round-a-bouts. I do agree that Runnings will bring in a lot more foot traffic into one of the weakest malls in minnesota.
