LETTER: Sherman wants lower property taxes
August 7, 2008 - 8:43am — Melissa Sullivan
From Steve Sherman As I walk around Hutchinson and talk to people I have been asked this question: “Why are you running for City Council?” My answer is that I am running for Hutchinson City Council because I want to work for lower property taxes. In a time when all of us are tightening our budgetary belts at home, we as a city need to reduce spending and limit additional projects in order to give tax relief to the citizens of Hutchinson. There are certain basic services like the police, fire department and road maintenance that need to be financed at appropriate levels in order to provide the best public service for you. On the other hand, we as a city need to prioritize and limit the amount of projects that we plan and finance. There are many good things that would be great to do but we need to budget and plan in such a way that we can begin to reduce the amount of property taxes that are placed on the people of Hutchinson. Please mark your calendars and vote on Sept. 9. Your vote can make a big difference for your future and taxes.
