  • Paige Wiehr lands eight-point buck

Paige Wiehr, 10, of Hutchinson, shot her first deer, an eight-point buck, on Sunday, Nov. 8. That morning, Wiehr and her father, Brent, started hunting early. After two hours of grunting for deer, Wiehr whispered to her father that she had spotted a buck. She fired and made contact, taking down an eight-pointer.

  • Harvest outlook is brighter

As October slipped into November, Hutchinson area farmers joined others across Minnesota in being concerned that much of the 2009 crop would be left in the field after a month of rain and cold temperatures. This week, almost all soybeans are safely in the bins and corn is popping out of the fields as quickly as the combines can pick and strip the ears and transfer the kernels to waiting grain trailers and trucks. For the complete story, see the Nov. 19 print edition of the Leader.

  • It's wine tasting time
