  • Program offers children free airplane rides
    The area chapter of EAA hosted Young Eagles Day at the Hutchinson Municipal Airport. Children ages 8-17 had the opportunity to go on a free airplane ride. Volunteer pilot, Dick Freeman, gave Claudia Hovendick, 8, of St. Cloud, and Lucas Bobier, 14, of Hutchinson, a ride above town Saturday.

    Julie Elder enjoys the view, and the potential, her Urban Hair Studio has on its new Main Street location. She has moved the salon from a basement site on Third Avenue Southeast.

Another successful Orth event


Marking the 10th year anniversary of the Tim Orth McLeod County event, all past recipients were invited back for the celebration. Of the 31 Orth kids, 21 were either in attendance or had parents or grandparents in representations. To see past and present recipients, and other highlights from Friday's event, push play on the slideshow.


Gopher Campfire Bluebird Day


Children, parents and grandparents gathered at the Gopher Campfire clubhouse on Lake Byron Saturday to learn about the habits of bluebirds. Kids were able to build a bluebird house they could take home and nature experts were on hand to answer questions about bluebirds.


A weekend to remember


From the state title from Hutchinson's Pat LeVasseur to medalists Ryan Madson of Hutchinson and Dan Larson of Dassel-Cokato to all the other region wrestlers from Glencoe-Silver Lake, ACGC, BLH/BOLD and GFW/McLeod West - the 2008 State Wrestling Tournament was a weekend to remember.

Swimming toward a goal


From the state relay title from the Dassel-Cokato/Litchfield four to last high school swims from Hutchinson's Matt McKeever and Evan Glasson, the 2008 State Swimming and Diving Meet was an emotional one for plenty of area swimmers.

Teachers hang on to help


The Hutchinson High School foyer filled with students Friday as they lined up to tape their teachers to the wall. “Stuck for a Buck” raised money for Pennies for Patients, a fundraiser for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

“Someone actually took this literally and brought us 100 pennies,” said event organizer Kirsten Grorud.
