FaithSharing the Word: Local churches share the gospel at the McLeod County FairAugust 19, 2008 - 10:10am — Kay JohnsonLocal churches including Grace Bible Church, Silver Lake; the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Hutchinson; Our Savior's Lutheran Church and School, Hutchinson; and the local Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod churches and Immanuel Lutheran School, Hutchinson, were represented at the McLeod County Fair. Whether the booths were promoting paroachial schools or church programs, people could visit and learn what local congregations are offering. John LeVoir, right, fielded questions Monday during a press conference announcing his appointment as the fourth bishop of the Diocese of New Ulm. The Rev. Monsignor Douglas Grams was at LeVoir’s side during the meeting in New Ulm. “We have been praying for a new bishop for more than a year,” Grams said in a prepared statement. “We are grateful that our prayers have been answered.” The full story about LeVoir and his appointment will appear on the new Extra!/Faith page in the Tuesday, July 22 Leader.
Pope names new bishop for Diocese of New UlmJuly 15, 2008 - 5:13pm — Doug HannemanA Minneapolis native whose Catholic ministry has served parishes in the Twin Cities metropolitan area for the past 27 years has been appointed the fourth bishop of the 68,000-member Diocese of New Ulm. Come late August or early September, the Rev. John M. LeVoir will be installed in the lead position at the diocese, filling a vacancy left in 2007 by the Rev. John C. Nienstedt, now archbishop of St. Paul and Minneapolis. Nienstadt issued a statement Monday praising LeVoir for his dedication as a parish priest. The second annual Blessing of the Bikes to benefit Birchwood takes place Saturday, June 28, at Faith Lutheran Church, 335 Main St. S., Hutchinson. May 28, 2008 - 4:08pm Youth for Christ sponsored its year-end event called Crud Wars Tuesday evening at Masonic/West River Park in Hutchinson. When the kids were dripping after a water fight, they filled cups with flour and went to war with one another. After being floured, eighth-graders took on the other students with a shaving cream war. When the battle ended, everyone gathered for a bonfire.
Ascension Day operetta at Peace LutheranApril 30, 2008 - 11:52am — Kay JohnsonThe children's choirs of Peace Lutheran Church will present an operetta at 7 p.m. on Ascension Day, Thursday, May 1, in the church at 400 Franklin St. S.W., Hutchinson. The operetta is titled "The Amazing Jerusalem Makeover.” It presents in song and humor the Biblical story of Nehemiah and the rebuilding of the wall of Jerusalem. The part of Nehemiah is played by Alex Goodwin, and King Artaxerxes is played by Jordan Woube. There’s no charge to attend and the public is welcome.
