In Tuesday’s Leader: Coney Island Eatery opens, volunteers return after serving children in Mongolia

• Coney Island Eatery, which opened last week in the Cornerstone Commons building, 114 Main St. N., has four main categories of food within its slogan “Fantastic Famous Foods for Family Fun Fanatics.”

• Tim Sanken and Naomi Polzin of Hutchinson recently returned from Mongolia, where they assisted doctors in the fight against children’s heart defects.

• A 54-year-old Hutchinson man died Friday night after his motorcycle struck a deer near Corvuso. Steven William Quast was killed when his 1987 Harley Davidson hit the deer and left the road, rolling several times before coming to rest in a ditch, according to Meeker County Sheriff Jeff Norlin.

• State Rep. Ron Shimanski says he’ll sponsor a bill to support the paving of the Luce Line State Trail, but he has concerns about bonding for it.

• When Jeanne Schealler purchased Cindy’s House of Floral Design, she kept the popular shop’s well-known name. Now, almost two years later, she is redressing the shop at 136 Hassan St. S.E., as Crow River Floral & Gifts. Read about it on the Business page.

• In Sports: The No. 6-ranked Le Sueur-Henderson volleyball team punched its ticket to state with an epic five-game win over the Tigers Saturday at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter. In football, Mankato West defeated the Tigers, 13-6, in the Section 2AAAA title game Friday night.

• Edwin Torborg served in the United States Army 82nd Airborne Division during World War II and was a lifelong farmer and owner of Torborg Manufacturing. He died Jan. 22 at age 85. Hutchinson’s Kathleen Nolan remembers Torborg, who was her great-great-uncle, in Extra!
