Lester Prairie residents have fallen prey to several recent gasoline thefts, according to Police Chief Robert Carlson.
Thieves have recently stolen gas containers and gas from automobiles. They have also entered boats, unlocked storage sheds and garages to steal gas and gas containers.
Carlson urges Lester Prairie residents to secure their cars, boats, boat motors, homes, garages and storage buildings. He also encourages homeowners to leave outside lights on at night, or install motion sensor lights, to help deter crime. The city has many mature trees, which can provide cover of darkness by night to criminals.
The police department has recovered several unclaimed gas cans. Residents who have not reported their missing gas cans can call the police department at (320) 395-2100.
