From updates that will impact seniors' lives to joining in the dancing and pageantry, older adults from Minnesota and surrounding states will find this year’s Seniors Expo is packed with activities.

The Seniors Expo, Sept. 16 and 17 at Treasure Island Resort and Casino near Red Wing, is targeted at Midwestern seniors and those approaching retirement age. It is a place to gather to learn more about the issues that impact their lives, get their questions answered by helpful experts, and most important: to have a great deal of fun while they’re at it.

The Expo (www.101expos.com) has been serving area seniors for nine years. The show's producers are reaching out not only to current retirees but also to those in their 50s and 60s who are planning for the next stage of their lives.

“We’re seeing a shift in the demographics of the people who attend this show to include more people who are five to 10 years away from retirement age,” said Robin Kocina, president of Mid-America Events & Expos, which produces the event. “This year’s event will be filled with interesting seminars and lots of great entertainment aimed at both age groups.”

At the 2009 Seniors Expo, people will:

· Learn more about their 2010 Medicare options.

· Enjoy admission to the Ms. Senior Minnesota Pageant, taking place in conjunction with the expo. The current queen, Constance Gabriel, will relinquish her crown to another talented woman who has reached the "age of elegance."

• Have a chance to attend a special seminar called Finding Work that Works. Designed and presented specifically for senior women and men by WomenVenture, the seminar will address some of the issues they are probably experiencing including: how to determine what they’d really enjoy doing, how to get started on that small business idea that’s been in the back of their minds for a long time, or even what their ideal volunteer opportunity might be.
