On Wednesday, Oct. 8, Hutchinson-area seniors are invited from 9:30 to 11 a.m. to tour the Hutchinson Public Library, 50 Hassan St. S.E.
Henke will explain the library’s collection of books, large print books, videos, audiobooks, Internet access, magazines as well as services such as special orders and the Friends of the Library Used Book sale table.
“This is the first time we’ve offered an open invitation to tour the library to the seniors in the community,” said Mary Henke, head librarian.
The idea for the senior tour grew out of a program titled the “Minnesota Age Wave,” conducted last fall by the library. The speaker shared information on the growing population of seniors in Minnesota and the impact they will have on community services.
Following the meeting, Henke said the library board discussed ways the library can play a role in meeting senior needs. “We decided a good first step would be to extend an open invitation to seniors, showing them what we have to offer and also to get feedback on what their needs and challenges are when it comes to using the library,” Henke said.
