All the sights, sounds and textures that make the hobby of model railroading so much fun will be on display when Luce Line Railroad Club Inc. hosts its 14th Hutchinson Train Show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, at the McLeod County fairgrounds in Hutchinson.
Proving that model railroading isn’t just for kids, LLRC’s 20 members, all of whom belong to the National Model Railroad Association, have invited other area model railroaders to display their railroad empires. Model railroads from Alexandria, Spicer and the Twin Cities all among those scheduled to visit. Other model railroad hobbyists will sell model railroad equipment, as well as books, videos about railroads and real railroad memorabilia.
Among the model railroads that will be operated for the public are the club’s three-rail O scale (1/48th scale) pike for vintage Lionel and Marx trains and the club’s You-Run-It three-rail railroad that children are welcome to operate. A layout that is especially popular with children is the LEGO railroad that will be displayed by a member of the Lakes Area Model Railroad Association from Alexandria.
Admission to the show Saturday is $3. Children 12 or younger are free when accompanied by a paying adult.
