Sandy Posusta, left, and Kathleen Neubarth waved to many of the more than 200 people who lined Silver Lake’s Main Street for the short St. Patrick's Day parade Saturday. The city might have silver in its name and its 799 residents are proud of their Czech and Polish heritage, but on Saturday the city was all green to celebrate. The 23rd annual celebration began with the parade down Main Street and ended with an Irish After Glo Party at the Silver Lake Legion Club.



Orchestra concert today

The Neuss Chamber Orchestra will perform Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Dassel-Cokato Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $15 for adults, $5 for youth. The 82nd Annual Academy Awards take place tonight, with actors Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin co-hosting. The ceremony will be televised on ABC starting at 7. Distant Drums '10

It was all about the beat Saturday at Distant Drums '10, a Minnesota Percussion Association drumline competition and exhibition, at the Hutchinson High School gym. Although Phoenix Drumline didn’t compete, this year’s captains from left, Hanna Jacobsen, Kevan Ahlquist, Kevin Hard and Russell Bailey led the group through its competitive program, “African Transit,” during the exhibition portion of the program.

Unicel team is people's choice at chili challenge

Aroma, appearance, originality and taste were among the criteria judges considered as they judged the Crow River Habitat Chili Challenge Saturday at the Hutchinson Mall. Eight teams competed in the challenge. The People’s Choice winner was the Unicel Team of Alex Pietrobon and Currin Kerling.

Bowling for a cause today

The 14th annual Strike Out the Violence Bowlathon takes place today at the Hutch Bowl in Hutchinson. Bowlers can raise money for the McLeod Alliance for Victims of Domestic Violence, but also have the opportunity to win prizes.
