They also used to hold the Water Carnival's Saturday night dance at the Armory. And that's where we all went for the last swine flu shots.

Someone told me yesterday that some of the trusses from the armory were used to build a machine shed east of Stewart. The building has a curved top so it could be possible.

she meant why don't you listen to the whole story before passing judgment on her. there is no reason to say things like "maybe the dog had a reason to run away". she obviously loves this dog and would not do anything to cause it to run away.

troll. people like you make me upset. you never have anything nice or encouraging to say to anyone. you only want to start controversy.

I'm sorry you lost your dog,

I'm sorry you lost your dog, but please don't accuse that woman of stealing unless you are sure she did....after all, you left, not realizing that your dog was missing and you didn't realize it yourself for at least 10-15 min, maybe longer. Your dog could still turn up, you've contacted the shelter and the police and passed out flyers. You've done all the right things and word is getting out. If this woman was to see you accusing her of stealing, she might be afraid to return you dog. Was your dog wearing a collar with identification tags, or a rabies vaccine tag? That might help find her if she was. If she had no collar the woman may have assumed she was a stray and doesn't realize you are looking for her. Have you placed an ad in the Leader in the lost and found area? that might help too. I wish you good luck and hope the dog turns up.

i got her and her when she was just a baby, not even a month old, after my dad passed away... She was like a best friend to me, especially when I wouldn't get out of bed, she made things better... You shouldn't say careless comments, it is rude, especially when you don't have the sense or heart to ask about something and become a little bit educated before passing judgement. I moved to Hutch less that a year ago and I have dealt with slum lord renters, people breaking into my house with ski masks and guns, and now I had some lady STEAL my dog.... yeah, she got loose at a garage sale NOT EVEN A BLOCK AWAY FROM MY HOUSE, and I returned there not even 15 minutes later, and she said some lady had her and was going to take her home, feed her, and bring her to the Hearts of MN Shelter... yeah I have contacted there, the police, every vet in Hutch... so be nice or be quiet, PZ!!

As a certified water safety

As a certified water safety instructor and Sr. Lifeguard, I spent many summer days enforcing the rules of the ol' millpond as one of the lifeguards in the early 1970's. The bathhouse as well as several other historical buildings in Hutch should never have been torn down. Living just a stones throw up the river, I grew up loving the Crow, and all the summer and winter activities on the river. I am not too sure how the new dam will be, but time marches on...
Lazy days on the river were some of the best times of our lives and for those too young to remember, the pictures do not do it justice. I wonder if the kids that pee'd on the bathouse floor in 1973 and got banned from the pond the rest of the summer will read this? Oh, the stories that the millpond could tell! The death that helped close the Millpond for good happened a summer or two after I left. I believe it was Tom Getzke that was on duty at that time and he was unable to see the victim due to the cloudy water and he had to feel around, but by then it was too late...

Once again in a desperate

Once again in a desperate quest to find parking for the downtown area, another fine historical building was lost, replaced by a parking lot of all things. When will the next building hit the wrecking ball? A lot of cars could fit in the footprint of the Library I bet!

I am Dr. Remulak

Just a comment about the old

Just a comment about the old city hall building...when you went up the stairs and turned left, there was a large meeting room. Offices, including the Chamber of Commerce and City Assessor, overlooked Washington Avenue. I don't remember the other offices being occupied.
If you turned right at the top of the stairs, there were restrooms. At one time, these were the only clean, public restrooms in the downtown area.
The City Engineer's office was also to the right of the stairs, overlooking Washington Avenue. Remember Marlow Priebe? He was the city engineer for a number of years.
Eloi Hamre and Chuck Fenrich were two Chamber of Commerce executive directors who occupied that office. This would have been in the mid-to-late 1960's.

I wouldn't say it was a huge building. But it wasn't small either. At one time the police station and city hall was all in one building. Also the DMV was there. It was a nice old building. Never been upstairs in it. So I'm not sure what was up there. Where city hall stood is now a parking lot across from the leader office. Then also next to the leader office was the fire station. And for a while hutch liquor store. I think it was a temporary thing until a new hutch liquor store was built, not sure. But for a while everything was in that area. Seems to me the cupola above city hall was electric controlled to ring the bell. But I'm not sure of that. It might of been used to warn the town of bad weather. Otherwise I don't remember ever hearing it ring.

City Hall must have seemed quite large. The cupola in Fireman's Park must be 10 or more feet tall.
