Fire Chief Emans held a community round-a-bout training exercise Monday in order to test the skills of those not entirely familiar with the nuances of navigating a fully engaged round-e-round the mullberry bush traffic device. Upon observation, many of the members of the community appeared confused and distracted by the smoke and rubber-necking! Next time they will be doing a time-trial through the round-the -bend, to determine at what speed the average citizen can maintain the curves without cutting across the lawn!

Members of the Hutchinson Fire Department conducted a Fire Cause Determination class Monday evening just north of Hutchinson.

“It was just a training exercise,” Hutchinson Fire Chief Brad Emans said.

Explaining how the class works, Emans said the department lights random fires to depict an accident or arson. Then the firefighters have to put out the flames and examine the scene. They also have to determine how the fire was started, if it was an accident or arson, and then interview people, and determine the cause.
