Some amazing old pictures, I wish I could find some pictures also of the old Sanctuary when it was used as a big turn table to turn train engines around with horses.

An Ames Mill remembrance by

An Ames Mill remembrance by Dr. Bob Prochnow:

"Seeing the old Ames Mill fire pictures in today's Leader brought back interesting memories for me. We lived less than a block to the east of the mill; and up on the hill. We had a good view of the mill. I was nine years old, and, my parents woke me up with the news that the Mill was burning! We had a good view from my bedroom window. The present municipal electric building was not built until a few years later; or it would have blocked our view! I will be very interested as the series of old photos continues.

These Ames Mill post card

These Ames Mill post card views are great. Thanks tobybryan. The image showing the bridge complete with horses and wagon was unknown to me.

Any more exterior or interior photos out there? We'd appreciate some remembrances from people who heard stories about the mill or can describe the interior.

We assume the small bump out from the main mill close to the river is a wheel house.

Welcome to the Lost

Welcome to the Lost Hutchinson forum. The Leader is asking readers to share remembrances of some lost buildings that once were part of the city.

If you were ever in the Ames Mill, know of any surviving artifacts from the mill, have other photos of the Ames Mill or its predecessor -- Hutchinson Flouring Mill -- please post comments and photos here. Or, send them to Hutchinson Leader, 36 Washington Ave. W., Hutchinson, MN 55350.

Watch the Tuesday print edition for the next featured building. And, post your remembrances about it at this forum.
