I have never written a blog before, so this is going to be something new for me. I think I will keep it short but I will be writing everyday, so if you are interested check back often.

I am an advertising representative for the Hutchinson Leader and also for hutchinsonleader.com and independentreview.net. I have a wife, son, daughter and 2 dogs. More about them later. I like to fish in the summer, fix up the house in the winter, and play paintball with the guys when I can.

That's enough for today.

Back to page top

Here it is the morning of New Year's Eve and it is finally snowing. The kids are excited as they each got a new sled for christmas and really want to try them out. Hopefully today they will get the chance. I am hoping for a really great 2007 and wish the best to all I know as well. Like it has been said before, it can only get better! Right? Like many others I have big plans to do more fishing, exercise and spend more time with my family. I will do my best to make all these things happen.

Have a fun night and a great New Year!

I did it, I actually watched the ball drop in New York last night(OK it was at 11 pm our time). I let the kids stay up and experience this for the first time, although it was with Carson Daly instead of ****** Clark(he did make a couple of appearances though). Now it's the morning after and I feel great, many new things to start the year off right. I did make the usual resolutions of lose a couple of punds, get in shape and spend more time with the family. Now I just need to figure out the million dollar question of how to accomplish them all. Well, it looks like just enough snow outside to play in, so I am off to enjoy a day with the kids in the winter wonderland. I hope that they don't grow up too fast, because these are the days to remember. Have a great day of vacation and back to work tomorrow for most of us!

Back to page top

I'm back at work this morning and the stack on my desk is huge. I would say that is a good thing. I will be playing catch up for most of the day, but it was worth it to have a week off with the kids. Too bad my wife had to work, but the kids and I had a great time anyway. They always enjoy not having to go to daycare for the whole day. I know I was only going to write once a day, but I am short on time this morning, so I will add some more content later today. I need to get back to work, so I don't fall any further behind!

Back to page top

The work day is done and now I can relax for a bit. I have a meeting at 7pm tonite, hopefully it won't last until 10. It was a good day to get back to work after a long vacation, I got a lot accomplished. Has anyone else seen the new discussion on Alcohol sales in Hutchinson. I am curious to see what people have to say on that issue, it has always been in the back of my mind also. Anyway, I am about to eat some leftovers that I made for the family on New Year's Eve(my wife was sick so we stayed in). I made my version of ham tortilla rollups, I added some cheese/salsa dip to the cream cheese. It really is pretty good, try it sometime. Then I am off to a meeting, and back home to get a little sleep before the next day arrives.

Back to page top

I had the chance to meet with the new Sheriff last night at my Sheriff's Posse meeting. I also met the new Chief Deputy, Tim Langenfeld, whom by chance had been the former Liason to the Sheriff's Posse a few years earlier(before he transferred to Eden Prairie police dept.). I feel that I know Tim fairly well, as he trained me on many aspects of the Posse duties including the initial 8 hour use of force program. These 2 will be a good match for the McLeod County Sheriff's Dept., and I wish them the best of luck over the next 4 years(and hopefully more). I am quite excited about the new programs that they are planning, and also that they support the Sheriff's Posse whole-heartedly. This was a concern of mine, as Vinkemeier did so much for us during his administration. More later....

The city council in...

Back to page top

The city council in Hutchinson should be taking notice of the active discussions that are going on within this site. With the amount of people commenting on the smoking ban (both for and against), this is obviously going to be the place to get a feel for what the public opinion is. I know that many will not even write stuff under a "username", but I would bet that many of these opinions are being formed in living room or workplace discussions between friends and families. Perhaps if the City Council or even the area school boards want to get some input on any given issue from the public, they will start their own forum discussion here.

That's enough on the political stuff, now back to what I am up to. My family has decided that we are going to try a responsibility chart for the kids, to teach them about being responsible and also rewarded for that. We are doing the basics, Brush your teeth, go to bed on time, etc. I will keep you posted on how that is going. I am sure that many have tried this and some have worked and some have not. ...more later

Back to page top

The first 2 days of the new responsibility chart for the kids is going just so-so. We really need to work on manners and listening skills yet. I know this will take some time, I just hope that in a couple of months I have the angels that I want. OK, that may be taking it a bit too far, but at least I would like to take them into public without any worries. They are good kids, just not like I was(Ha Ha). I always tell my wife that it is her fault when they do something wrong, it has to be because of something she did to her Mother when she was young. Don't they say that your kids will act just like you did when you were their age? Anyway, I will keep you posted, and if anyone has ideas for me, feel free to leave them.

Back to page top

Busy weekend for me so far. First on Friday evening was the Back door party(customer appreciation night). This seemed to go over very well, I always enjoy a social evening with my customers. Next was bowling with our couples league. This was going great for the first 2 games. I was over 200 each, and then came the 3rd game, I won't even tell you the score it was so low. Although this is mostly for the fun and social time, I am a little competitive with myself and really like to do my best. Anyway, Sunday is for family here, and we have 3 January B-days to celebrate, so I am now off to have lunch with everyone soon. Check in later....

Back to page top

Total meltdown! That was the story at my house last night. As you know we are working on respect and responsibility with my children. Well, a toy got broken last night and when faced with the consequences(having to go to bed early) we had a meltdown occur. It was crying, begging and pleading not have a punishment, but we stuck to our guns(something we need to work on ourselves). I hope that this is a step in the right direction for both us and the kids to being a happier family(not that we are unhappy but we have our moments when things aren't so fun). I still think that it has something to do with our spoiling them a bit too much up to this point, but it sure is hard not to when they are young. I am hoping to really introduce them to camping and fishing this year(hopefully we will have time to do this 2 or 3 weekends a month). They do both enjoy doing those activities and I think that it helps kids mature a lot better when exposed to nature. Check in again....

Back to page top

Cold is coming! That is the first thing that caught my ear when I turned on the news this morning. I don't like the cold, but I expect it, after all I have been a Minnesotan all my life. I just hope that with it comes a little bit of snow for the kids to enjoy. OK, my wife will tell you that I enjoy the snow as well, I always get out the plow to clean off the driveway. She says that I am just playing and she is probably partly right. After all, who hasn't pushed dirt or snow around in the sandbox as a kid hoping for it to be the real thing someday. Anyway, if it comes I will be ready and even enjoy it a little as will most everyone else. Later....

The poll question for the...

Back to page top

The poll question for the week is one that I will be watching as there is a lot of discussion on this topic for McLeod West. I think that most people know that I live in Brownton and that my kids have gone to Hutchinson schools since day 1. I don't want to get political in this blog, but what the heck it's just my opinion. I think that the 3rd option to join with another district is one option that the McLeod West school district needs to take a very close look at. If it is new buildings that they want, this would be the best way to get them as most of the other districts are looking for new buildings also. Why not pair up and share the cost, so that not only will the buildings be new, but the education will also be the best it can be. Anyway, enough on that, I believe that the right thing is always done in the end(whatever that may be). I am just glad that it is Wednesday, I really am looking forward to bowling tonight(my team is in 1st place). That is the first time since I started with them 3 years ago. Not that I have been doing the greatest lately, but my team has been keeping me up. Wish me luck for a 600 series tonight......

Back to page top

It was a pretty good night of bowling. I was right on my average. The team did not do as well as we have been, but we all have "off" nights sometimes. I did come home to a surprise though. I walked in and my youngest was still up and had just thrown up. Hopefully this is a quick flu bug that will be better tomorrow. Thank goodness that I work for a good company that allows me to stay home with my children when they are sick. Although, I can do some stuff from home, so the day is not all lost. The responsibility chart seems to be working, as the kids still like to make the check marks each night as they go to bed. I hope that it will just become habit for them to get the chores done. It' late, I will write more tomorrow.....

Back to page top

It looks like the flu bug is going to be a quick one(knock on wood). The youngest is feeling better this afternoon, you know how the kids just bounce back. But I have said that before and they will be running around in the afternoon and then supper time comes and they are down again. Time will tell. Wish me luck, I do have plenty to do at work, so it would be great to be back tomorrow. A nap and tomato soup seems to always work for this one, that's my secret (I'm not telling what works with the other one). Be back later.....

Back to page top

Knocking on wood did not help, I guess that is because I am generally not the superstitious type. It seems that the bug has jumped over to me. I awoke at about 3 am with a terrible feeling that turned out to be more than just a feeling(I got sick). So now both of us are home sick today. Let me tell you , I would rather be at work! I had heard that this was going around, but it has been a while since I have had a flu bug. I do get most of the colds that go around, but I can deal with that, this stuff I can't stand. Anyway, just a bit of health advice: Wash your hands and avoid sick looking people. You don't want to catch this one. Later....

Another one down! Well the last of our family is now sick. Last night my wife had a visit with the bathroom. At least now we are done with this bug. The good side is that with the exception of my youngest it has only lasted about 24 hours. Good luck to everyone else, steer clear if you can. I am looking forward to a relaxing weekend, since everyone is recovering. I think I will be doing some cleaning and disinfecting so it does not come back. Otherwise it looks like a board game and movie weekend. I will be happy to have something else to talk about after this week.....

The Lady in the Water was the movie that we watched this weekend. It really is a good movie, not at all what I was expecting. It's about an asian bedtime story come to life(in modern time). It really was fun to follow.
We finally got some snow, and I am sure that all the snowmobilers are happy. The kids are definately ready to do some sledding, hopefully we will have some time this week. You never know how long it is going to last. I get to plow the driveway after work as well, that is somewhat fun for me. I am sure that it will end with a snow fight(snowballs probably won't work this time). The kids seem to think it is fun to get as much snow on me as possible before we head in the house. Later....

Sorry, I missed yesterday. The day was really busy, I had Shopper deadline for this weekend, and was working on some new proposals for hutchinsonleader.com. Then at home is was movie night with Mom and the Kids, since it was too cold to be outside. I am throwing around the idea of going to the big ice fishing contest on Gull lake this weekend, now that the ice is solid enough. Although, I am a fair weather ice fisherman, I will watch the temperature forcast and see how it goes. I have never caught a fish in that contest, but it is kind of fun anyway. They give away some really good prizes, so the hopes of winning are great. I will let you know if I go and how it turns out. Talk to you later....

Food, that is what is on my mind right now(it's lunch time). We were just having a discussion of where the best Chinese food is. Everyone seems to have an opinion on this subject, even those who don't like Chinese food(which I can't even imagine that). Anyway, just thought I would share that tidbit .
Looks like we are not going to get very much snow, I was actually kind of hoping for an inch or two. I remember when I was growing up all the snow that we had. We would make snow forts, go sledding, snowmobiling and even ride the bikes into the snow banks. And of course who can forget King of the Mountain. That was a morning ritual every day before school. I know that they don't like the kids to play that anymore, but come on it was fun. So what if you got hurt once in a while(I see it a toughening you up for life). Of course we had a lot more snow each year back then. Later....

T.G.I.F, yes that right I am saying it. The weekend is almost here. It has been one of those weeks for me, being capped off by the fact that my e-mail is not working properly. Fortunately for me, we have a computer guru at our corporate office who seems to be able to fix anything. Anyway, that is price I pay for being out a couple of days the week before, it usually takes a week or so to get back up to full speed on everything. I seem to also have some great customers who understand when these things happen, Thank you to them.
I hope that everyone has a great weekend, and check back soon.....

It's snowing again. Although it only looks like we will get an inch or so, it's nice to see things turn white again. I will be out with the kids this afternoon doing the normal winter activities. I am glad to be able to do these things with my kids, as it always brings me back to my childhood. There is nothing like a memory of the winters in Minnesota. I was reminded of how I liked to take out my dirt bike in the snow, when my son asked if the go-cart would run in the snow. It always sounds like fun, but doesn't work quite as good as you would hope. A snowmobile really is the only motorized vehicle made for the snow. I have learned that from experience. Anyway I am off to have some fun with the kids.....

Happy Monday!! OK, I can be a bit more excited since it is 5 o'clock. It was back to work again, with the weekend gone and done with. It was a fun weekend with the kids, although we did have a minor meltdown at the lunch table on Saturday, which ended in a much needed nap for the youngest. It was nice having Mom around for the weekend and Saturday bowling(she usually works every Saturday). I did have one let down, though. The Saints lost to the Bears. But at least the Colts won for me. For those that play the FOOTBALL ZONE, you know what I am talking about. Looking forward to Tuesday....

Another day on the books. I worked late today, got home about 6:45 after picking the kids up and taking them back to work with me for awhile. I just got so busy at the end of the day. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining because if I am working late it means I am getting business. I guess I will see what the President has to say about the state of the Union tonight on TV. Hopefully it will be positive and energetic, I think we all need that right now. It has been a good day, busy at work and the kids are behaving. It doesn't get much better than that. OK, maybe a trip to someplace warm and a beer in my hand would be ideal........

I always enjoy learning what is new in the industry(especially the online part). I attended a seminar put on by Michael Moore of startribune.com, and he did an excellent job of showing some of the new technologies that are out there. Of course I am partial to the internet side of the newspapers because the online advertising is part of my job. Anyway, I had a fun day of learning and it was refreshing to see that we are keeping up with the "big boys" in this industry. Talk to you later it has been a long day...

Cold enough for ya?! I am sure we will hear that many times today, after all there is still a lot of norsk decedents in the area. You have seen the movie Fargo and know that we all talk that way.. Anyway back to the cold , it is very chilly out there this morning so be sure to dress warmly. I think that I should do what my dad did years ago to get the kids to understand that just because it is a toasty 72 inside doesn't mean it is outside. We primarily burned wood for heat and it would pretty much be 60 or less in the house each morning before school as a kid. Let me tell you a HOT shower feels very good when it's that cold in the house, just hope that you are not the last one in line(showers get longer the colde the house is). At least we can be safe to say that the cold snap is here and it can only get warmer after it is done. Yes, I am a Minnesotan, I complain that it is too cold in winter and too hot in summer.... Whatcha gonna do.....?

It's "hump day". Another Wednesday to get through and then it is on to the weekend. Do you remember when you were in college and when Thursday came, it was the start of the weekend. All the bars had their specials starting then, and usually there weren't a lot of classes(or they were short). Aahh, those were the days. Now I am all grown up and there are things everyday to get done, or places to be, etc. I believe that I am like most people now, in that the kids are busy with this and that every weekend. Don't get me wrong, having chosen the retail path after college, I thrive on being busy and under stress. Just ask my wife, if I don't have anything to do, I go crazy(OK, maybe drive her crazy). I am constantly on the move, which is great, I look at it as not missing out on anything. Anyway, it's time to get some work done, I have plenty to do. COLD, COLD, COLD!!! Brace yourself for the old fashioned cold winter that we are known for. It is coming this weekend with sub zero temps. Bundle the kids and bring in the dogs. This is talk that you will only hear in Minnesota on a cold February day. I remember taking a trip to California when I was younger and having a conversation with a local resident about climate. They were sure that it always snowed and was cold in Minnesota and would not believe that in the summer it gets up to 100 sometimes. It took a lot of convincing to get that point across. Anyway have a wonderful Thusday evening and don't forget to put the extra blanket on tonite......

Way to go Tristan! My son bowled a 142 this past weekend on his Saturday league. I believe that it will earn him a patch for a game over 120. He also rolled his first "turkey" ever. I believe it is time to cut back on a few things before I go crazy. I would like to get an exercise schedule down, but I can't seem to find the time. Soon it will be indoor soccer season again(March), I coached last year and probably will again this year. I do enjoy this, it gives me a chance to be with my kids and do some teaching as well. I look at it as giving a little back to the community. Most don't know this but I ran a youth inline hockey program in Mankato in my early 20's when Skating World still existed(it is Pet Expo today). Here I am again ready to begin another work week. We have plenty going on here at the Hutchinson Leader. We are busy putting the Guide to Hutchinson, Agriculture Tab, Monthly Real Estate Guide and the regular papers together this month. This time of year really keeps us hoppin' around here. That is good because when it is slow, I tend to go crazy as I like to keep moving and busy as much as I can. Anyway, it appears that the cold snap is almost over. Perhaps I can even get out ice fishing with the kids at least once this year. They have been asking to do this lately and it has been just too darn cold for me. Besides the fact that if they went out in this cold, they would only last 10 minutes. Soon it will be spring and then they can get out more anyway. Let's hope for an early one......

I do enjoy this, so I am glad that I was able to do it again this year. March is just around the corner and the kids are excited. Maybe this weekend we can get some good winter memories built also. It sounds like it is going to be fairly warm, so we can get out an enjoy the snow and ice before it is gone. Who knows maybe a snowman will even come to life this weekend if it gets warm enough for the snow to stick. Although, I am sure that a snowball fight will be on the minds of my kids. Hope everyone had good Valentine's day. I personally do not celebrate this holiday as much as the other ones. Yes, I do give my wife a card and it always comes from my heart and I have in the past spent a bit of money on presents, but this year we decided to keep it low key. After all we have an Anniversary coming up and in my mind that is much more important than a "Hallmark Holiday". I am still waiting for it to warm up though. I bowled in the City tournament singles and doubles last night, but probably should have saved my money. I only threw a 544 for a high series 644 after handicap, which was much below my 636 scratch of last year. Oh well, there is always next year. I shouldn't complain too much anyway, I bowled exaxtly what my average is. Talk to you later....

I am glad that they are excited about the weekend coming, because they know that they will get to spend more time with us and do some fun things that we are just too busy for during the week. This week should be fun for the kids at bowling. They are expecting some patches, and they are excited. I am looking forward to getting outside this weekend also, since it is supposed to hit 30 degrees. A nice walk would be nice, and I am sure that the dogs would enjoy that also. It was breakfast for supper night at our house. At least for the kids. They wanted eggs the "way dad makes them", which by the way is over easy. So that was supper. As for the adults, I don't know yet. I will be waiting for my wife to get home from work this evening to decide on supper for us. What a day, it was very nice to feel some warmth for a change. And by the look and feel of the kids clothes today, they enjoyed being outside as well. We recently purchased the American Idol game for our PS2, and although it is a cool game you won't be seeing me at any karaoke events any time soon. To say that I was terrrible would be an understatement. I think I will keep my day job. The wife on the other hand, may have to try it out with others watching/listening sometime(she did quite well). Sorry about the lapse in time since my last post, I have been pretty busy lately. I have had a lot on my plate this last week. I have been busy at work and I am also in the process of considering a new position within the company. Anyway, it looks like it has finally started to snow as I type this. Maybe the forecasters will be correct this time. I am kinda even looking forward to the fresh snow in the morning, except for the driving part. Who knows maybe bowling for the kids will be cancelled and I will be able to just stay home for the day. I guess I will know when I wake up. That definately was the best Batmobile ever. I especially like the part when it would transform to a lay down seat for super fast motion and for firing the weapons. Maybe the military should take a look at this for the next weapon of the future. It can attack and retreat with respect. It really was the most mobile Batmobile to surface yet.

Are they serious? Did I hear 12 inches of more snow? Well I guess the kids asked for it so here it comes. We do need the moisture I guess. It will bring more opportunities for some snow fun videos. Stay tuned...

Here it comes! Another foot is coming, that's what they are saying anyway. I had to get up extra early this morning to scrap off the wet stuff. I wanted to keep up on it this time, because the last snow I waited until it was over and that was a mistake. I t took me almost two hours to plow out, and it usually only takes around 45minutes. I am running a little short on places to put the snow though(the driveway is shrinking quickly). The kids were excited to wake up to a school cancellation, but they still have to go to daycare. I guess that isn't as "bad" though, because it will be play time all day. I guess we will wait and see how bad it gets.....

Scott, I enjoyed your video clip. Looks like our backyard here in Idaho. Just got about 6 inches and are to be receiving another 6. So...you fine Minnesotans will probably be blessed with some more of the beautiful white stuff. Tell the family hello for me.
I really enjoyed reading all of your blogs.

Kids are out playing and have been for some time now. I have taken a couple of video clips, but I am having trouble uploading today to youtube. I think that they are busy right now, I wil try later and have them up tomorrow sometime. I went home early, but I guess that this is kinda work(that was for the bosses if they are reading). Just kidding, it was a good idea to get off the roads today, they are getting quite bad. Anyway, time to get the kids in for supper soon....

Our snow storm passed over us with only an inch or two. Hope yours did the same. Today in Idaho it is cold and clear. Just maybe you will get some of this nice sunshine that Idaho is to have for a few days..

Just to show everyone that I did do some work on Friday. I spent a good couple of hours on the new snow fort next to our driveway. Let me tell you I slept well on Friday night. That is a lot of work especially when the hole is as big as you are. At one point I thought I may need some help getting out because I had pushed the snow from inside around my legs and had filled up the entrance. The kids worked on it today when I was changing the brake pads on the car. I think that they have it hollowed out pretty good on the inside now. They have plans to play games, cards and even eat supper in it later. We will have to see about that. Anyway, here is a clip so you can see the work, sorry I don't have a light on my camera to get inside.....

Scott,

Looks like a great snow fort. Please be careful though. When I was about 8 years old my brother and I built what I thought was the greatest snow fort ever. Our Mother warned us to be careful. To this day I can remember her exact words, "what would you do if the fort caved in on you" We were playing and having a good time. My older brother decided to go to the house and get some PBJ sandwiches so we could have a snack in our newly built 3 room snow fort. As my brother was walking to the house, without warning, part of the fort caved in and trapped me inside. I was burried in snow but was able to get one arm free and remove enough snow so I could breath. I yelled for my brother and fortunately he heard me and came back to dig me out. I was very sore from the weight of the snow but with no other problems. Needless to say, that was the last snow fort I helped build and enjoyed. Luckily, I was not alone when the fort caved in.

A warm up! I am looking forward to the warm up that they have been alluding to on the nightly news. We have a birthday in the family this week and I know that she really likes the snow, but also thinks that her birthday is in the spring and it looks like winter now. I am sure that she will have a fun day anyway. Conference week is off to a good start, one down and one to go. I am confident that the next one will go as well as the first. Now that the kids know they are on the internet, they want me to film everything. It will be a fun summer.....

Tell your little girl Happy Birthday for me. A package will be in the mail today.
I really enjoyed your video clip. Thanks again!!

Back to page top

March Madness, I think that describes my life instead of a tournament. We have a birthday, anniversary, 1st grade program, muffins for mom, donuts for dad, pastries for parents, and scientist of the week for starters this month. We are busy with bowling, both kids and parents, cooking club along with myself getting ready to change positions in the company. Whew! The sad part is that I think I kind of like it that way, although I don't admit it too often. I feel that the more you have to do the more you feel alive. Hopefully I will be able to retire at a decent age to slow down and relax at that time. Anyway, I guess it is time to get the weekend started......

Back to page top

It has been a hectic couple of days around our house. We have this going and that going, never ending. The youngest had to go to the dentist this morning for a toothache(we are hoping it is not an abcess). Everyone in the family now has a cold, one with an ear infection, one with a sinus infection and hopefully only colds for the others. I guess that usually comes with the first thaw of the season, especially when allergies run in the family. Speaking of which, you should see the river that is running down the side yard of our house. It is crazy how much flows down in the spring. Although I am pleased with the landscape work that we had done a few years ago, the sump pump does don seem to be running too much even with all that water going by. I guess it is diverting it where it is suppose to go. Well, it's Wednesday and one day closer to the weekend, have a good midweek...............

Happy Anniversary to my wife of Ten years!! We made it to the decade mark, and that is something to be proud of these days. We both have friends that we went to school with that have been divorced , some even twice. We count ourselves very lucky to have the family that we do. We owe much of it to each other and to both of our families for being loving and compassionate. I know that we will have a great weekend celebrating this event in our lives. As our kids will quote the great Stitch(from Lilo and Stitch the cartoon), we have "ohana", which I believe is Hawiian for family and family never leaves. Anyway, thought I would share that with you...talk to you later....

I never miss an episode of CSI(I have it set on the DVR to record every new one)! That was one of the best of the year. Great twist on the triplets, but even better with the look alike double for the husband. Makes you think that maybe it's not so bad not having too much money, at least no one wants to take you out for the insurance(or inheritance). As usual I can't wait to see what they come up with for next week...

Soccer has started again. I am once again coaching the girls k-1 indoor soccer and boys 2-3 indoor soccer. This is so much for both the kids and the parents. What a great way to teach some skills, get some exercise and have fun all at the same time. Even though we don't keep score, there is nothing more fun than to see one of the kids score a goal. They get so caught up with the excitement that they don't always stop to reset after the score. Anyway, if you haven't seen this sport played in person, you should check it out. At the lower levels it is non-stop fun. This sport is great exercise and very good for team building skills as well as a great confidence booster because every one participates. Hopefully, I will be able to share some video clips in the future with you.......

I had posted to a new blog topic, but received some complaints that readers could not find it. So , I am going to resume posting under this topic so that it is easier for evveryone to find. Another tooth is gone today, but this time it is because of a baby tooth. Thank god! We have had enough teeth problems for a lifetime. Soccer is going great, all the kids are so enjoyable to work with. Hopefully things will slow down a bit for me in a month or so. Soccer will be done and I will have started my new position. Then again, summer brings swimming lessons, camping trips, vacation, and who know what else. I wouldn't give up being busy for anything, I think it is what keeps me going. I am still working on the soccer video, hopefully this week sometime...stay tuned...

Is summer coming? I sure hope that this is the end of the snow for this year. April snow just does nothing for me. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a good Minnesota winter full of snow, but there is a time limit to it! I am ready to get out in the yard, go fishing, camping and all that comes with summer. Now that bowling is over, spring should be here. And yes, I did finish with a 601 this year! I so wanted to make a 600 one more time this year and I just made it. One more fun night to go with the Sat. couple league, and the tournament for the Sunday couples and it is all over until next year. Soon I will have some fish stories to share.. you will want to read about them...

Back to page top

The McDonald's 2-3 soccer team had a great game yesterday. OK, I am the coach so I could be a bit partial. All the boys played very well and very hard yesterday. I was very proud of the teamwork that they exhibited. They even had a pass and shoot goal. That is what we practiced prior to the game. I think it helps that the weather is warming up and some of the kids are playing at home or school, that keeps them into the game. I am hoping that many of them continue on with the outdoor soccer this summer. This is a program that I hope one day the Minnesota High School League will take seriously and it gets offered at all levels of school play. Anyway, enough on that. The other thing on my mind as the weather gets nicer is fishing. With the opener only a few weeks away, I untarped the boat this past weekend and fired up the motor. To my surprise it started right up without any hesitation. I installed the second fish finder and only have the new rod holder to put in and it will be water-ready. Maybe some crappie fishing is in the works soon. More later....

Tomorrow is awards/fun day for the kids at Hutch Bowl. They all really look forward to this day. They get their patches, trophies, etc and also get to play some fun bowling games. We will see what the kids get in the morning. It looks like spring is here to stay this time. We can't wait to get out in the yard and plant flowers, etc. Maybe even a garden this year. Soon it will be time for swimming and all the other fun stuff that comes with summer. I am also about to embarq on the next step in my career with Red Wing Publishing. I will be starting my new role as Internet Sales Consultant for nine of the papers within the company. I am excited to start this new postion. Anyway, I have enough work to do to keep me busy all day, so talk with you later....

Congratulations! To Glenn Ahlers for 4th place in the 2007 Match game singles tournament. Glenn is part of the Hey Neighbors couples Team as well. I read it in today's print edition of the Leader. The Mandelkow Flooring girls K-1 Soccer team did a great job again last night. The girls are really coming along with their soccer skills. Keep up the good work. I am working on the Fishy Fotos contest again for hutchinsonleader.com, so if anyone gets some good opening day pics please log on and upload them for all to see. JB Lures is going to give some lure prizes away again this year. It is always fun to see the great fish pics. Watch for more on this....

I am ready to go fishing... Has anyone else been out yet? If I get a chance to go this weekend, I would like to go where they are biting. It is always more fun with the kids if they can catch something, otherwise they get bored. Looks like spring has decided to stay, I saw a planter in the field on the way to work this morning. Maybe you can even get in the garden this weekend, although we had planned to wait until after Mother's Day. WE will see. We still are deciding if we want to add a garden this year. I would like to, but it will be a lot of extra work for the summer. I will keep you posted. The Go-cart will probably get a work out soon also, as it is now warm enough and the soil is firm enough to handle it. Just rambling today, hope you don't mind...

No fishing this last weekend, but we did manage to buy the license for this year on Sunday. It seems that the Honey-do list took precedence this weekend. We started a few of the outside projects that we had talked about this winter. Flower planting is probably going to be next weekend, the kids and mom are really ready to get that done. I too would like to see the color in the yard, but I am wary of doing it this early. I like to follow the Mother's day rule, but may cheat a week this year. After all, I see that a lot of the farmers have put seed in already. Only 2 weeks left before the fishing opener, there will be no projects that weekend, only fishing.....

Back to page top

The Tiger Cubs track meet is this weekend, we really hope that it does not rain. The kids participated in this fun event last year and couldn't wait to sign up this year. The track team does an excellent job of setting up and running this fun day. Let me tell you it is a lot better than the kids wanting to be in a video game tournament or some other non-physical activity. The more I can get the kids outside the better, otherwise they will sit in front of the TV all day.

We only have one more week left of the boys 2-3 soccer and they are getting quite good. I have seen teamwork from these kids now that was not there a few weeks ago. They are passing, watching for open players, and getting in front of the net to score. I am very pleased with their progress. Just think if they have 2 or 3 hours to practive and play instead of 50 minutes, they might be at the next level by now.

For those waiting for the fishing opener: Only 8 more days!!!

Less than a week left before the fishing opener. The last forecast I saw was a good looking one too, highs of 70. Knock on wood.. I sure hope that the weather holds out for this one, I am a die hard, but all of my fishing partners are not. So if it is bad weather I will be sitting inside all weekend. I don't want that to happen. We started working on the patio in the backyard with the decorative patio block. That is some hard work, you have to get it level and then lay them down(40lbs each). I am hoping that it is worth it. I guess the benefit is that you don't have to paint or stain it every couple of years like a wood deck. Speaking of which, that is the next project, ours hasn't been done for 6 years.ANyway, that's all for now. Talk to you later.......
