Robin, heron, wood duck sightings

Two robins were walking down Dale Street during lunch. There is plenty of water from the melting snow to drink along the curb, but I don't know how available worms are this time of year.

At least something thinks it's spring. The Robins are all over the place.

My wood duck house has an old nest in it. I didn't see any wood ducks in the house last year, but a black bird flew in and out of it last spring.

I checked the house Sunday and sprinkled a few wood chips over the old nest. I hope it was OK to leave the nest material in there. I've read conflicting reports about whether or not this is right.

One report said to clean the old nest out and replace it with sawdust. Another report said leaving the nest increases the chances for getting a duck to use the house.

I guess some wood ducks like old woodpecker nests in hollow trees. So, I can't believe an old black bird nest is much different.
