Two pair of either Bufflehead or Hooded Merganser ducks were spotted recently on the South Fork of the Crow River near the Sanctuary.
I've read Buffleheads nest in trees, like wood ducks. The white spot on the head could make it either.

Do any readers know of Buffleheads or Hooded Mergansers in the area? Skip Quade told me today, the Buffleheads are a bit rare around Hutchinson, but are seen in the spring around the Sactuary as they fly through.
