Lost Hutchinson: Milwaukee Road Depot

» Read similar stories filed under:

Milwaukee Road DepotTaking their last look at Hutchinson’s Milwaukee depot are Mr. and Mrs. C.W. Dettle. The depot closed Tuesday (Feb. 5, 1957), and the Dettles, who have lived here since 1947, moved to Wisconsin.

Constructed: September 1886
Nearly 20 years after its construction, the Leader lobbied for depot upgrades. In September 1904, the newspaper praised the prospect of a new brick and stone platform to replace a wooden one in front of the depot. In 1907, the station agent gave the Leader a letter from the railroad’s division superintendent. The editor was pleased with the superintendent and called him, “One after Hutchinson’s own heart.” The letter called for improved grounds and trees.

Torn down: Between Feb. 7, 1957 and December 1958
