The National Hockey League’s (NHL) Minnesota Wild today unveiled the team’s new mascot, Nordy, this afternoon at a public event on the Xcel Energy Center ice. Nordy, the newest member of the Team of 18,000, hails from way up yonder and is a lifelong resident of The State of Hockey. Born in Eveleth, Minn. he was raised with a stick and a pair of blades and cut his teeth on the ponds and lakes throughout the Iron Range. He now resides at Xcel Energy Center and calls the Capital City home.
Here is how things are shaping up in Section 2AAAA (football) with two weeks remaining. This will be updated next Monday and Thursday.
1. Mankato West (Record: 6-0 Points: 43 Potential: 59)
The Scarlets have clinched the No. 1 seed in 2AAAA. Even with loss to 5A Rochester Mayo and 5A Owatonna would give them 49 points - one more than Hutchinson could attain. West will be the new No. 1 team in 4A Wednesday.
2. Marshall (Record: 6-0 Points: 34 Potential: 46(?))

The Missota Conference
Farmington 35, New Prague 7
* The Tigers remained one game up on Hutchinson in the chase for the Missota title with the win. After a scoreless first quarter, Farmington put up 28 points in the next two quarters. New Prague stacked the box early and often in an attempt to slow down standout running back Derek Waldbillig Friday night and quarterback Brent Beenken took advantage, lighting up the Trojans' thin secondary for 212 yards and a career-high four touchdowns
Northfield 42, Red Wing 14
Every Tuesday, the Star Tribune runs a honor roll for football statistics for 5A, 4A and others. Hutchinson players rarely make the honor roll because stats are not updated on any preps site.
So, I kind of keep my own stats for the season. Here is the stats I have...I have taken these straight from the drive sheet that a student manager writes down except for the Farmington game, in which stats were provided via the Farmington Independent.

Tuesday night was a disappointing end to a fun Twins season. My buddy said it best, we played one more game than we should have this season. I'm a negative nancy, so I figured we'd lose, so I wasn't that disappointed. If we had won, I would have been joyous. That is what makes it so great to be a pessimist.
The thing that is so promising for next season is that we have a nice core of players that will be back.
Read the story from Rick Reilly here (he scooped my story I'm sure):

I thought this was a well written piece from a national media guy that going in had no clue what is going on there.
Here is my favorite portion:
The problem is simple. McLeod West was formed in 1992 by the consolidation of the high schools from two towns—Stewart and Brownton—which happen to despise each other. It was like putting the Hatfields and McCoys in a phone booth. Stewart parents didn't want their kids in with Brownton kids and vice versa.
North Dakota State University will induct its 37th annual class of seven new members into the Bison Athletic Hall of Fame and its second national championship team into the Bison Athletic Hall of Champions on Friday, Oct. 3.
The addition of the seven new members will bring the number of individuals enshrined to 224.

The Missota Conference
Farmington 34, Prior Lake 14
* The Tigers busted a close game open with 20 points in the third quarter and cruised to a 34-14 victory that avenged a 12-7 loss to Prior Lake last year.
After winning the Tiger Trophy and Tractor Game, the Tigers cruised to a victory that avenged last year's loss to the Lakers -- and got the Milk Can.
"The traveling trophies are something to motivate us," said quarterback Brent Beenken, who ran for two touchdowns and threw for two more. "It's easy to get excited for these games."
